37 Thousand TL Fine During Anchovy Inspection: Warning to Businesses

As a result of inspections carried out in Trabzon, a total administrative fine of 37,770 TL was imposed on businesses that did not comply with the regulations required for anchovy fishing. Teams from the Trabzon Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry carried out these inspections with the aim of ensuring the sustainability of seafood hunting and the planning of agricultural production.

The statement indicated that a total of 400 thousand tons of anchovy fishing is permitted in the seas, and it is mandatory for these fish to be brought ashore only at designated landing points. Considering the economic value of anchovy and its importance in Turkey's seafood market, such inspections are of great importance in contributing to the establishment of order in the sector.

During the inspections, the cost to businesses for anchovies landed at points other than the designated landing points was quite high. At this point, it is vital for businesses in the fishing sector to comply with laws for sustainable fishing. The relevant directorate requests businesses to exercise due diligence and ensure full compliance with regulations.

This fine, imposed for the first time, once again highlights the importance of control and inspection mechanisms for anchovy fishing. In the restructuring process, businesses fulfilling their legal obligations will not only reduce their economic losses but also contribute to environmental sustainability. It is evident that inspections in fishing areas need to be intensified, and businesses should be made more aware of this issue.
