A 33-year-old pregnant woman believes that the prenuptial agreement prepared by her 38-year-old businessman fiancé offers her more exclusion than protection. The fiancé, who earns an annual $800,000, requests a contract that defines nearly all assets, including income earned during the marriage, as separate property. The woman, who earns $250,000, supports the agreement in principle but states that the contract makes her "legally and financially easily disposable."

Among the issues in the draft is her exclusion from home ownership; even if her name is on the deed. However, if she gives birth to their child, she can only obtain a 50% share of the house, defined as the "family home," under the condition that its value does not decrease. Otherwise, there is no reimbursement for improvements made, mortgage payments, or shared expenses.

Some clauses, which she believes would provide security—such as child support or a 6% payment after 20 years—have been described as "unrealistic" and manipulable. The woman's lawyer warned her that her fiancé could reclassify his income or channel assets through his company. The option of arbitration instead of court eliminates discovery and transparency processes.

Expressing that a full financial disclosure was not provided about her fiancé and that only vague property definitions were offered, the woman mentioned that three different lawyers recommended against signing the agreement. The lawyers stated that the contract is "extremely one-sided" and actually leaves her very vulnerable if the relationship ends. After her fiancé insisted on the final version of the agreement, the woman expressed that she feels her options are exhausted as she tries to decide whether to raise her child alone.

Commenters observing the controversial situation in her post remarked, “Suing him for child support is safer for you.” Another added, “If you don’t have security, then why are you considering marrying him?” A user with a similar experience recalled that her fiancé from a wealthy family rejected an "absurd" prenuptial agreement, yet the conditions changed for the wedding. “If there are no more arrangements, then there is no marriage,” she said.
