The Committee for Monitoring and Evaluation of Food and Agricultural Product Markets convened under the chairmanship of Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, along with Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat and Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı, as well as important bureaucrats.
During the meeting, the current status of previously made decisions, developments in prices of basic food products, and the supply-demand balance were discussed. It was noted that, in line with domestic production forecasts, the import of certain food items should be supported to enhance the supply of basic food.
Short-term measures that could be taken to minimize the impact of price movements on consumers were evaluated. In this context, it was expressed that legal regulations should be reviewed to revise the tariffs for basic food items such as bread.
Within the framework of supply-side measures, it was decided to increase support for producers to ensure sustainable production, for instance, regarding greenhouse production and agricultural irrigation investments.
While analyzing the factors threatening price stability of basic food products, it was emphasized that mechanisms such as the Early Warning System should be effectively maintained by all relevant institutions. The committee stated that all necessary measures would be implemented in an integrated manner to ensure price stability for both producers and consumers without compromising inflation targets.
