The Hill reported that Federal Judge Arun Subramanian has temporarily halted the U.S. government's decision to freeze approximately $10 billion in funding for the states of California, Colorado, Minnesota, Illinois, and New York for 14 days.
This decision was made following a lawsuit filed by the aforementioned states against the federal government. The states argued that the freezing of funds threatened living standards and affected the financing of programs that provide assistance to children.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) had frozen critical funds such as Child Care and Development, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and Social Services Block Grant in these five states on January 6, citing fraud allegations.
Assistance programs provide vital federal funding for low-income families and children. It is expected that these frozen funds will be released as soon as possible to ensure that these services continue without interruption.
