Ethereum (ETH) developers have taken a significant step by naming the second major network update planned for 2026 as "Hegota." This development indicates that Ethereum has entered a period of more frequent and faster updates, capturing the attention of investors.

During developer meetings held earlier this month, key steps in the 2026 roadmap for the network were clarified. Hegota is expected to be implemented in the second half of the year, following the "Glamsterdam" update planned for the first half of 2026. This situation is seen as a sign that Ethereum has entered a faster update process, in contrast to its previous annual update tempo.

Influenced by criticisms from investors, developers aim to accelerate the process by offering significant changes through more frequent updates rather than all at once in this new model. In this context, the scope of the Glamsterdam update will be clarified at the meeting at the beginning of January. Additionally, the finalization of prominent Ethereum Improvement Proposal headings for Hegota is not expected before February.

The centerpiece of the Hegota update, Verkle Trees, is expected to help nodes store and verify large datasets more efficiently. If Verkle Trees are successfully implemented, it is anticipated that the hardware requirements for running a node will significantly decrease, thus strengthening decentralization. The name of the update is derived from a combination of "Bogota" and "Heze," staying true to Ethereum's traditional naming approach.

The Ethereum Foundation officially confirmed in its latest blog post that Hegota is the next major step following the Fusaka and Glamsterdam updates. Investors should closely monitor the innovations brought by the Hegota update and be prepared for developments within the Ethereum ecosystem.
