Elon Musk's New CFO Appointment for xAI and X

Anthony Armstrong has been appointed as the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of xAI, founded by Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and the social media platform X. Armstrong takes over the position from former CFO Mike Liberatore and will also replace Mahmud Reza Banki.

Financial Responsibilities and Integration Goals

Armstrong's new role will involve managing the integrated financial structure of xAI and X, starting in April. Previously, Armstrong served as an advisor to Musk during the Twitter deal and will be responsible for the financial affairs of xAI and X. This appointment coincides with the period when the financial functions of xAI and X will merge, and Armstrong will oversee the management of both entities’ cash flow, budgeting, reporting, and capital planning processes.

Departure of Previous CFOs and Transition Process

xAI has been without a CFO since Mike Liberatore departed in July. xAI's general counsel Robert Keele also left the company in August after serving for over a year. Additionally, senior attorney Raghu Rao left xAI during the same period. One of the company’s co-founders, Igor Babuschkin, announced his departure to establish his own venture capital firm dedicated to AI safety research. The former CEO of X, Linda Yaccarino, also resigned in July.
