Important Innovations in Food and Agricultural Product Markets

After a long hiatus, the Food and Agricultural Products Markets Monitoring and Evaluation Committee convened and decided to develop a new model for determining bread prices. This change is considered a critical step to ensure food price stability in Turkey.

Critical Decisions Made in the Meeting

The meeting, chaired by the Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, was attended by the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı, the Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat, the President of the Presidential Strategy and Budget İbrahim Şenel, and the Central Bank President Fatih Karahan. Important decisions were made on two main topics during the meeting:

Import and Supply Support

Firstly, it was stated that the import method would be effectively utilized for food products facing production issues. The committee emphasized in the decision text, "Considering domestic production forecasts, the supply provided through imports for certain food products will continue in a balanced manner." This situation is crucial for the continuity of the products that consumers need.

Evaluations on Short-Term Measures

The second important agenda item of the meeting was the wage prices in Turkey and their effect on overall price movements. Short-term measures were discussed to minimize the impact of price fluctuations on consumers. It was decided to update the current legislation regarding the pricing of essential food products like bread and to transition to more effective tariffs.

Investments and Early Warning Systems

Additionally, the meeting emphasized the need to increase support for investments in greenhouses and agricultural irrigation. Furthermore, the importance of implementing early warning systems regarding prices and continuously updating these systems was highlighted. The decisions made are vital for ensuring food security and maintaining price stability.
