Çimsa has secured 50 million Euros in green financing. This financing has been allocated by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the company's comprehensive decarbonization program being implemented at its Mersin plant.
The support from EBRD particularly covers the installation of the Calcium Aluminate Cement (CAC) kiln and various emission reduction investments in the existing gray and white cement kilns. These investments aim to accelerate the sustainable transformation in the cement sector.
Since 2009, EBRD has provided more than 22 billion Euros in financing to Turkey and plans to offer an additional 25 million Euros to Çimsa in 2024.
Today, Çimsa, one of the top three producers in CAC manufacturing globally, is aggressively pursuing its global growth strategy in sustainable building materials. CAC products have a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to traditional gray cement.
EBRD Turkey Vice President Erdem Yaşar expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration with Çimsa, stating, "Çimsa's exemplary efforts contribute not only to its own competitiveness but also to the development of the sector." Çimsa CEO Umut Zenar stated, "This collaboration with EBRD will accelerate our decarbonization journey and serve as an important example for our industry's transition to a low-carbon future."
