The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Executive Directors Board approved the appointment of Daniel Katz, who served as U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's Chief of Staff, as First Deputy Managing Director.
In a statement from the IMF, it was noted that Katz was proposed for the position of first deputy managing director by IMF President Kristalina Georgieva in September. The Executive Directors Board has approved this appointment.
Katz has provided various national and international advisory services to Bessent and has participated in numerous regional and bilateral economic negotiations. Additionally, he has represented the United States on various international platforms.
Katz expressed his honor in receiving such confidence from the Executive Directors Board, stating, "The IMF plays an indispensable role at the center of the international monetary system. I am eager to contribute to leading the Fund, working closely with the staff, and serving our members."
IMF President Georgieva expressed her great satisfaction with Katz's appointment during a time of significant transformations in the global economy. "I warmly welcome him and look forward to our close collaboration. The IMF will greatly benefit from Katz's expertise in economic policy and international relations," she stated.
