China did not import any soybeans from the USA for the second consecutive time in October, aiming to reduce supply risks due to rising trade tensions. However, thanks to increased imports from South America, the country’s total soybean imports reached record levels.
According to data released by the China Customs Administration, soybean imports from the USA, which were at 541,434 metric tons in October last year, dropped to zero this year. This situation is directly linked to the high tariffs implemented by China at the beginning of the year and the depletion of the USA's old crop stocks.
On the other hand, soybean imports from Brazil increased by 28.8% year-on-year in October, reaching 7.12 million tons and constituting 75.1% of total imports. Imports from Argentina rose by 15.4% to 1.57 million tons, accounting for about one-sixth of total imports.
