Canada's British Columbia province is planning to impose a permanent ban on new cryptocurrency mining operations connected to the electrical grid. This ban is said to aim at managing electricity demand and ensuring that industrial developments are supported by clean energy.
In this context, BC Hydro will no longer approve grid connections for new cryptocurrency mining businesses. The ban is targeted at promoting more efficient use of electrical resources.
Additionally, the province will limit electricity use for artificial intelligence and data centers and introduce a competitive distribution process by January 2026.
