In Bolivia's second round of the presidential election, the candidate from the center-right, Senator Rodrigo Paz, has won. According to preliminary results announced by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, 97 percent of the polling station records have been processed.
Paz, the candidate of the Christian Democracy Party, won the election with 54.53 percent of the vote. The former president known as Tuto, conservative candidate Jorge Quiroga, managed to obtain 45 percent of the votes.
Rodrigo Paz will officially start his duties as the new president of the country during the oath-taking ceremony to be held on November 8. This election is significant as it marks the first-ever second-round election in Bolivia's history.
Following his victory, Paz emphasized that comprehensive reforms would be implemented in Bolivia and stated that he would take steps to increase economic freedoms, promote production and trade, in line with the vision of "capitalism for everyone." He also mentioned that access to suitable credit opportunities would be provided for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Rodrigo Paz, the son of former Bolivia President Jaime Paz Zamora, will begin his term with the responsibility of leading the country through one of the most serious economic crises in the last 42 years.
