Bithumb's Erroneous Airdrop Affected Bitcoin Price

Bithumb announced that users mistakenly received a credit of 2,000 won instead of 2,000 Bitcoin during a reward event. This situation resulted in large Bitcoin balances being created that only existed in the exchange's internal ledger.

When users attempted to sell the credited balances, the price of Bitcoin fell to levels 15.8% lower on Bithumb compared to other exchanges. Bitcoin was traded for a short period around 81 million won (approximately 55,000 Dollars).

The exchange restricted the affected accounts within a few minutes, and prices quickly normalized. Stating that the incident was not related to a hack or security breach, Bithumb emphasized that customer assets were safe.
