White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt announced that a possible meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin has "not been completely taken off the table."
During a press briefing, Leavitt made statements regarding the likelihood of the Trump-Putin summit taking place. Experts emphasized Trump's frustration with the "insufficient progress" between Russia and Ukraine in ending the ongoing war.
Leavitt highlighted the U.S.'s sanctions against two Russian oil companies, stating that Trump has adopted a stance to take steps against Moscow when necessary. While Trump is interested in a meeting with Putin, he noted that this meeting needs to produce concrete results.
Previously, Trump commented on his meeting with Putin that was planned in Budapest but canceled, saying, "I canceled the meeting with President Putin because it didn't feel right to me."
At the event, Trump responded to a question regarding Putin's statement that Russia would not be affected by U.S. sanctions, saying, "I'm glad he thinks that way. That's a good thing. I will give you more information on this in six months."
