The Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek traveled to Washington D.C. to attend the annual meetings of the G20, IMF, and World Bank. Minister Şimşek is faced with a busy schedule and, therefore, brought his plans forward by one day to conduct various meetings more comprehensively.
It is expected that Minister Şimşek will participate in approximately 60 meetings during his contacts in Washington. These meetings will include major investor conferences attended by global investors, as well as one-on-one and group discussions. In this process, Şimşek aims to share detailed information with investors about the current status of the economic program implemented in Turkey and recent developments.
As part of the Washington program, Minister Şimşek will also hold meetings with top representatives of US firms operating in Turkey. Additionally, he plans to meet with academics, investors, and policymakers from leading think tanks in the US to emphasize Turkey's investment environment and ease of doing business.
It is anticipated that Minister Şimşek will hold a meeting with senior management of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), Islamic Development Bank, and World Bank. Attending the G20 Finance Ministers meeting, Şimşek will also have the opportunity for bilateral meetings with the finance ministers of Greece, Singapore, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Qatar.
It is expected that Şimşek will meet with the European Union’s (EU) Commissioner for Economy and Efficiency Valdis Dombrovskis. Through these meetings, the Minister aims to bring Turkey's economic policies to a broader perspective on the international stage.
