Anthropic is starting a new era with Google.

Anthropic is expanding its growth in the artificial intelligence field with a deal made with Google, broadening its cloud computing and specialized chip capabilities. This collaboration stands out as a deal worth tens of billions of dollars.

The San Francisco-based startup plans to purchase up to one million Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) specifically designed by Google. With this expansion, Anthropic aims to offer over a gigawatt of new processing power online by the end of 2026. The company’s Chief Financial Officer Krishna Rao stated that this move was necessary to meet the 'exponentially increasing demand' for Claude artificial intelligence models.

Anthropic currently has over 300,000 business customers. Founded in early 2021 by former OpenAI employees, the company was established due to concerns about the insufficient handling of potential harms posed by the models under the leadership of CEO Sam Altman. Backed by Amazon, Anthropic quickly entered the intense competition that began with the release of OpenAI's ChatGPT application in November 2022.

Google is making significant investments in artificial intelligence as part of the race to be a leader in technology, competing with OpenAI, Microsoft, Amazon, and other rivals. TPUs compete with Nvidia's in-demand GPUs, and Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian expressed that Anthropic's decision to expand the use of TPUs reflects the strong price performance and efficiency achieved by their teams over many years with TPUs.

Anthropic introduced its next-generation artificial intelligence model, Claude Sonnet 4.5, last month. The company claims this model is the best in the world in the field of computer programming. Additionally, the new version is regarded as the most advanced option for applications that allow an AI assistant to use a computer like a human.

At the beginning of this month, the company announced it would open an office in India, the most populous country in the world, as a player in artificial intelligence. Demand for AI tools is rapidly growing in India, which is expected to reach over 900 million internet users by the end of the year.

Anthropic is valued at $183 billion, while OpenAI's valuation reportedly reached $500 billion through a private stock sale. In this case, OpenAI could earn the title of the world's most valuable startup.
