The US-based semiconductor manufacturer AMD has announced a strategic partnership with leading OpenAI in the field of artificial intelligence. As part of this significant agreement, AMD will supply processor chips specifically developed for OpenAI's artificial intelligence infrastructure.
In a joint statement, it was noted that OpenAI will use AMD chips with a total capacity of 6 gigawatts within a long-term collaboration framework. The first installation is planned to take place with AMD's Instinct MI450 series chips in the second half of 2026. This development will enable large-scale artificial intelligence applications for both companies while also contributing to the advancement of the ecosystem in the industry.
The statement also emphasized that to better align strategic interests, AMD has granted OpenAI the option to purchase up to 160 million AMD shares. This purchase option is planned to be activated gradually, depending on the completion of certain milestones. Immediately following these developments, AMD shares experienced a surge of over 26%, leading to a strong rise in value. This increase created significant excitement in the markets and caught the attention of investors.
As a result, AMD's strategic partnership with OpenAI is a critical step not only for the two companies but also for the overall development of the artificial intelligence sector. Both parties are expected to benefit from this process.
