AMD and OpenAI Establish an Innovative Partnership

OpenAI has signed an important collaboration with AMD to enhance its capabilities in artificial intelligence technologies. This strategic agreement encompasses a total of 6 gigawatts of GPU power and marks the beginning of a new era in AI infrastructure.

AMD's Instinct Series to Be Used

As part of the agreement, OpenAI plans to use AMD's Instinct series graphics processors in the coming years. In the future, OpenAI will acquire the right to own 10% of AMD's shares.

First Hardware Deployment in 2026

The first hardware deployment is expected to begin in the second half of 2026; at this stage, a 1 gigawatt GPU installation will be carried out. OpenAI's CEO Greg Brockman described this step as “a strategy central to our vision.”

Significant Increase in Share Prices

Following the announcement of the partnership, AMD shares experienced an increase of 23.7% in a single day, marking their highest daily rise in recent years. There is a strong expectation in the markets that this agreement will significantly enhance AMD's long-term growth potential.

Share Purchase Rights and Strategy

As part of this collaboration, AMD granted OpenAI a share purchase right (warrant) of up to 160 million shares. If OpenAI exercises these rights, it will be able to own approximately 10% of AMD's total shares. AMD's CEO Lisa Su characterized this collaboration as “a turning point shaping the future of the AI ecosystem.”

OpenAI's Strategic Investments

This step complements the recently signed $100 billion hardware and capital supply agreement with Nvidia. Thus, OpenAI has committed to a total infrastructure investment of approximately $1 trillion in the last two weeks.
