Amazon is preparing for its largest layoff process since 2022. Starting from Tuesday, it aims to reduce approximately 30,000 corporate positions.

According to three people familiar with the matter, the e-commerce giant is cutting costs after over-hiring due to high demand during the pandemic. This figure represents about 10% of Amazon's corporate workforce.

The cuts, which will begin this week, could affect teams such as human resources, operations, and Amazon Web Services. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy had noted in June that AI tools could lead to further layoffs by automating repetitive and routine tasks.

Earlier in the year, he had set up an anonymous complaint hotline to identify inefficiencies. Sources indicate that Amazon's five-day office return policy, one of the strictest in the tech sector, has not ensured sufficient layoffs.

Additionally, it is reported that some employees who do not come to the office every day voluntarily left Amazon due to living far from corporate offices or other reasons, and should leave without compensation. This situation provides cost savings for the company.

On the other hand, Amazon maintains its expectations for the upcoming large holiday sales season. It plans to create 250,000 temporary job opportunities, as it has in the past, to support its warehouses and other needs.
