San Francisco - Lindo St. Angel, who has fifteen years of experience in Amazon's (AMZN) devices division, announced that he will be leaving the company at the end of October. This marks the second high-level departure recorded within the month of October.
Amazon confirmed St. Angel's plan to leave the company next week after an investigation conducted by Reuters. While no information was provided regarding the reasons for his departure, there was no response to St. Angel's request for comment.
In a statement made on behalf of Amazon, it was expressed, "We are grateful for his contributions to Amazon and wish him the best." No further information was provided about St. Angel.
At the beginning of October, it was reported by Reuters that Rob Williams also announced his departure from the position of Vice President of Device Software and Services. Williams was a member of an elite group advising CEO Andy Jassy and will continue to provide consultancy to the head of the devices division, Panos Panay, until the end of the year.
The devices and services unit, which has been working to overcome low profitability for years, is undergoing a transformation process through layoffs and a reduced product range. Amazon, as reported by Reuters in August, plans to appeal to a broader audience by renewing its Fire tablets with the Android operating system for the first time. However, the project to update the Alexa voice assistant with embedded generative artificial intelligence is progressing slowly, and a clear path to profitability has yet to become evident.
Just less than a month ago, Amazon showcased a new line of devices, including updated Echo speakers, Fire TV streaming devices, Kindle e-readers, and Ring cameras, at an event held in New York.
St. Angel has been involved in the development of various devices, including the Echo voice assistant speaker, the Astro robot, and Fire tablets, during his leadership role. St. Angel's last working day is set for October 31st.
Amazon shares rose by 1.1% on Thursday, reaching $220.36.
