Amazon.com expanded the reach of its low-cost e-commerce service to 14 new markets on Friday. The new service is named Amazon Bazaar. This step is seen as part of a strategy to compete with Chinese rivals Shein and PDD Holding's Temu platform.
The expansion of the service comes as U.S. President Donald Trump's broad import tariffs have negatively affected consumer sentiment among low-income groups. Low-income consumers are continuously seeking more affordable products.
The new application is similar to Amazon Haul, offering a multitude of products priced mostly under $10, with some available for as low as $2. The product range spans from home goods to fashion.
The markets designated for the new low-cost e-commerce service include Hong Kong, Philippines, and Taiwan.
