Akkuyu Nuclear Inc. has taken a critical step for the connection of electricity to the national grid at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), which is being constructed by the Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation Rosatom. The company announced that nominal voltage was supplied to a section of the 400 kV Gas-Insulated Substation from the external power grid.
This important development confirmed that the electricity produced by the first power unit of Akkuyu NPP is ready to be transferred to Turkey's national electricity grid.
Before the voltage was supplied, a comprehensive preparation process was carried out in the 400 kV Gas-Insulated Substation, including the installation of insulated metal enclosures, busbar systems, circuit breakers, disconnectors, and transformers.
This process was meticulously conducted by Atomtekhenergo Inc., Rosatom's electricity sector company. The experts of Akkuyu also played an active role in the inspection and acceptance processes of this equipment.
After the equipment received nominal voltage, specialists monitored its performance for 72 hours. At the end of the process, it was confirmed that the systems of the Akkuyu NPP’s 400 kV Gas-Insulated Substation operated smoothly and met the necessary standards.
Akkuyu Nuclear Inc. General Manager Sergei Butckikh stated that the work carried out is a significant development in Akkuyu NPP's electrical infrastructure. Butckikh said, "This work is progressing in full compliance with all project requirements. Even if we had to change the equipment supplier, the readiness of the Gas-Insulated Substation to supply energy was achieved in a short time. We strive to enhance work quality and thus the future operational reliability of the NPP."
