Card Spending Increased by 51% YoY in August

Card Spending Data in August 2025

The Interbank Card Center (BKM) announced the data for August 2025. According to these data, a total of 1.80 billion card payment transactions amounting to 2.15 trillion TL were realized nationwide.

Rise of Contactless Payments

In August, 4 out of every 5 card payments made in-store were contactless. The number of contactless payments increased by 15% year-on-year to 1 billion 224.2 million.

Internet Card Payments

In August, the amount of card payments made online increased by 58% year-on-year to 654.3 billion TL, accounting for 30% of total card payments. The number of online card transactions increased by 4% to 226.6 million.

Increase in the Number of Cards

As of August, there are 138 million credit cards, 216.6 million debit cards and 105.5 million prepaid cards in Turkey. Total expenditures made with the three card types increased by 51% year-on-year to 2 trillion 146.3 billion TL.

Details of Payments Made with Cards

1 trillion 814 billion TL of card payments were made with credit cards, 319.2 billion TL with debit cards and 13.1 billion TL with prepaid cards. The total number of transactions increased by 12% to 1.8 billion.
