The federal government has been closed for 39 days in the United States, negatively impacting the aviation sector. It has been reported that over 1700 flights were canceled this weekend.
According to obtained information, airlines canceled these flights scheduled to take place from November 7 to November 9 in accordance with instructions issued by the FAA.
Due to the government shutdown, there has been a significant reduction in the number of air traffic controllers. This situation is cited as the primary reason for the flight cancellations. Airlines, on the other hand, are blaming the government and Congress for these cancellations.
According to a statement from the FAA, domestic flights from the 40 busiest airports have been reduced by 4 percent starting yesterday. Just yesterday, 800 flights were canceled.
If the government continues to remain closed, 6 percent of flights on November 11, 8 percent on November 13, and 10 percent on November 14 will have to be canceled.
