A senior official from the U.S. Department of State will travel to India this week to continue trade agreement negotiations between the two countries.
The U.S. Embassy in India announced on Sunday that the U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker will visit India from October 28 to November 2 to enhance the strategic partnership with India.
Hooker will meet with various senior Indian officials, including Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, in the cities of New Delhi and Bengaluru. Key agenda items for the visit include deepening economic and commercial relations, increasing U.S. exports, and strengthening cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence and space exploration.
According to a report by Bloomberg, U.S. Deputy Trade Representative Rick Switzer and his team will also be in India during the same period. These two visits follow Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to India at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi.
The Indian government has shown a willing stance in discussions with the U.S. administration to reduce the 50% customs duty imposed on crude oil imports from Russia.
