The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has added foreign-made unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and their critical components to the list of banned products for sale and importation across the United States. The FCC stated in its announcement that these products pose a serious threat to national security.
It was noted that this ban was implemented in line with the need to protect the U.S. airspace for major international events such as the FIFA World Cup planned for 2026 and the Olympics in 2028. Additionally, threats posed by cartels, terrorist groups, and foreign governments were also influential in this decision.
It was expressed that this decision would not apply to products previously sold in the U.S. It was stated in the announcement from the Chinese Communist Party Special Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives that support was given for this ban.
