US President Donald Trump announced the strengthening of the military alliance with South Korea, emphasizing that the cooperation between the two countries is built on firmer foundations than ever before. Trump stated that he has officially granted approval for the construction of nuclear-powered submarines in South Korea.
Trump announced that South Korea has agreed to pay 350 billion dollars to the US in exchange for reducing tariffs. Additionally, he announced that South Korea will import large amounts of oil and natural gas from America.
In a post on his social media account, Trump predicted that investments made by wealthy South Korean businessmen and companies in the US would exceed 600 billion dollars.
“Our military alliance is as strong as ever. Therefore, I have granted approval for South Korea to build nuclear-powered submarines instead of the diesel-powered submarines they currently possess, which are based on outdated technology,” said Trump, noting that these processes would particularly intensify at shipyards in Philadelphia.
The new nuclear submarine projects of South Korea will strengthen the US's strategic presence in the Asia-Pacific region while also altering the security dynamics in the area. Trump expressed that his meeting with the President of South Korea was extremely productive and that he believes the long-term alliance between the two countries will be reinforced.
