According to this report, in the last month of the fiscal year that starts on October 1, 2024 and ends on September 30, 2025, the federal government achieved a budget surplus of 198 billion dollars.
Last year, during the same period, the government's budget surplus was recorded as 80 billion dollars. In September 2025, the government's total revenues reached 544 billion dollars, an increase of 3 percent compared to the same period last year. Expenditures, on the other hand, decreased by 23 percent to 346 billion dollars.
Throughout the fiscal year 2025, the total budget deficit of the U.S. federal government was determined to be 1 trillion 775 billion dollars. In the fiscal year 2024, the budget deficit was recorded as 1 trillion 817 billion dollars. Thus, the budget deficit showed a 2 percent decrease compared to the previous year in fiscal year 2025.
The federal government's total revenues in fiscal year 2025 increased by 6 percent to 5 trillion 235 billion dollars, while expenditures rose by 4 percent to 7 trillion 10 billion dollars.
In particular, customs tax revenues reached record levels during this period. The revenue from customs taxes during fiscal year 2025 increased by 153 percent to 195 billion dollars. This increase was a significant factor in reducing the budget deficit.
