The European Union (EU) Commission has announced the "Artificial Intelligence Application Strategy" and "Artificial Intelligence in Science Strategy" created to keep up with global competition. These strategies aim for EU countries to take a leading role in the field of artificial intelligence.
The EU will promote the use of artificial intelligence applications in various sectors such as health, pharmaceuticals, energy, transportation, manufacturing, construction, agriculture, food, defense, communication, and culture. Special support will be provided to SMEs to ensure the integration of artificial intelligence, and AI-supported screening centers will be established in the health sector.
To implement the strategy, the EU Commission will provide approximately 1 billion euros in funding. Additionally, annual investments related to artificial intelligence will be doubled through the Horizon Europe research program, exceeding 3 billion euros.
The EU will launch a new initiative to bring together leading players in the field of artificial intelligence. Europe will take various measures to attract highly skilled professionals worldwide.
However, the EU's strict regulations and slow bureaucratic processes hinder data access for the development of artificial intelligence systems. Big tech companies also indicate that the regulations in Europe pose obstacles.
