The Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır announced that they have created a total of 59,000 hectares of 16 new industrial investment areas along the Samsun-Mersin line in the first phase of the Industrial Areas Master Plan published in the Official Gazette. These new areas will be located at strategic points where mega industrial zones will be constructed.
Minister Kacır emphasized that the new investment areas will reach an average size 11 times larger than the current organized industrial zones (OSB). The relevant provinces include Aksaray, Amasya, Ankara, Eskişehir, Hatay, Karaman, Kastamonu, Kayseri, Kırşehir, Konya, Nevşehir, Niğde, and Yozgat. Kacır stated that this historic step will provide an additional 37% to the country's industrial capacity.
Minister Kacır pointed out that the industry needs to spread from the Marmara Region to Anatolia, stating that while Istanbul is positioned as the intellectual center of industry, the cramped industry needs to be expanded in Anatolia. He expressed that the Development Road and Zengezur projects will enhance global connections of the new industrial zones.
The Minister stated that the new industrial areas will illuminate the next 30 years of industry with a planning that will increase from 150,000 hectares to 350,000 hectares. The new areas will have a secure infrastructure, be supported by logistical connections, and provide social facilities for working families.
