TotalEnergies (TTE) has taken a significant step by signing a 15-year agreement to provide renewable energy to Google’s (GOOG) data centers in Ohio. As part of this agreement, TotalEnergies will supply 1.5 terawatt-hours (TWh) of certified renewable electricity annually from the Montpelier Solar Plant in Ohio.
Moreover, this collaboration supports Google's strategy of integrating new and carbon-neutral energy into its energy networks. Stéphane Michel, head of TotalEnergies' Gas, Renewable Energy, and Power unit, emphasized the importance of the agreement by stating, “This agreement showcases TotalEnergies’ capacity to meet the energy needs of large technology companies by leveraging our integrated renewable and flexible energy portfolio. Additionally, it holds the potential to contribute to our 12% profitability target in the electricity sector.”
This partnership between TotalEnergies and Google will not only advance the sustainability goals of both companies but also highlight the importance of renewable resources within the energy sector. The adoption of similar strategies by more technology companies in the future will significantly contribute to the growth of the renewable energy sector.
