


Purdue University and Google aim to deepen their collaboration in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) by integrating educational and research processes. Leaders from both organizations came together on November 13 at the 'AI Frontiers: Education, Business, and Government for Real-World Innovation' event to exchange insights on the role of AI in education and its impact on research.
Google Public Sector CEO Karen Dahut stated, "We plan to bring AI to every student's, academic's, and staff's hands by placing it at the center of the curriculum." Dahut emphasized that the existing collaboration between Purdue and Google spans a wide range from data analysis to the development of secure pathways.
Purdue University President Mung Chiang noted that this public-private partnership will accelerate groundbreaking research in the field of AI and prepare students to tackle societal challenges. Chiang remarked, "Today is an important day at the Google-Purdue AI Summit. We aim to enhance this strategic partnership in both research and education," he stated.
Purdue announced a new artificial intelligence competency graduation requirement aimed at preparing the future workforce, set to be implemented in the fall of 2026. This innovative curriculum aims to ensure that all Purdue students gain proficiency in AI tools and applications.
The event brought together university and industry leaders in Indianapolis to discuss how AI and new technologies are transforming critical sectors. Purdue Senior Vice President Dimitrios Peroulis noted that industry leaders need reliable partners to accelerate innovation. "AI is rapidly continuing to play a critical role in healthcare, manufacturing, agriculture, and defense," he said.
Featured speakers included Google Public Sector engineering head Chris Hein, autonomous driving technology company Waymo engineering vice president Srikanth Thirumalai, and Indiana Senator Todd Young.
Purdue is highlighting physical artificial intelligence as a key component through a comprehensive university initiative called Purdue Computing and is solidifying its national leadership in this area by establishing the Purdue Physical AI Institute.
