The tension between Musk and Altman continues.

Elon Musk and Sam Altman continue their criticisms of each other on Musk's social media platform X.

Both figures are known as co-founders of OpenAI. However, since Altman assumed the role of CEO, they have frequently clashed through social media, court documents, and company blog posts. The latest tension began with Altman's post, which he described as a “three-act story.” In this post, he shared the documents related to a reservation he made for a Tesla Roadster in 2018 and the difficulties he faced when trying to cancel that reservation. Altman noted that his email requesting a refund of the 50,000 dollars reservation fee bounced back.

In his post, Altman stated, “I was really interested in the car! I understand the delays. But waiting 7.5 years seems like a long time.” The second-generation Roadster sports car was first unveiled in November 2017, but its release has been repeatedly postponed. As CEO of Tesla, Musk recently stated that the new version is expected to be unveiled by the end of this year.

In response to Altman's post, Musk criticized him by saying, “You stole from a charity.” This criticism has been previously directed at Altman and OpenAI; not only in tweets but also in lawsuits aimed at hindering the transition of OpenAI from a non-profit organization to a for-profit one. OpenAI completed this transition and began operating as a for-profit entity that serves the public good while still maintaining control over its non-profit aspect.

Additionally, Musk established a rival artificial intelligence initiative called xAI and filed lawsuits against OpenAI and Apple, alleging that the two companies colluded to stifle competition. Altman described Musk's allegations as “extraordinary ... Given what I’ve heard about Elon manipulating X for his own interests, related to harming competitors and people he dislikes.”

Today, Musk stated that Altman's screenshots do not tell the whole story: “And you forgot to mention the fourth act where the issue was resolved and you received your refund within 24 hours. But that's in your nature.”
