Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary harshly criticized the consulting sector, describing this profession as "a waste of soul and life" for graduates of prestigious institutions like Harvard University.

In an interview with Fox Business, O'Leary emphasized that Harvard has functioned as a "production farm" that has been training consultants for years, with about a third of each class choosing this career path.

Focusing his criticisms on the lack of decisive decision-making in this field, he stated: "Consulting is a waste of soul and life because they can't make any significant decisions. They live in a sea of mediocrity and end up falling into consultants' hell, which is the lowest level of hell."

O'Leary sends a strong message that the people you spend your time with shape what you will do. In a post on platform X, he said, "The people you spend your time with shape everything."

Noting that two-thirds of Harvard graduates focus on new ventures, O'Leary positively evaluated their paths, stating that they reach the essence of American economic history. He said that the strength of the country always stems from the entrepreneurial mind.

He added that children raised by entrepreneurial parents will adopt this culture by seeing someone work 18 hours a day. O'Leary has criticized consulting in the past; in a post on TikTok, he acknowledged respect for consulting firms but stated that he is not eager to encourage people to become consultants.

"This is really a path that slowly leads to hell on earth," he said. "I don't understand why someone would spend all those hours chasing a career where others make money while you do nothing significant." In a LinkedIn post, O'Leary expressed that he never hires consultants because they never gain management skills.

Many consultants pushed back against O'Leary's LinkedIn post. One person stated, "Many consultants have held senior roles in various companies and have taken on critical decision-making responsibilities," noting that transitioning to different environments provides a broader perspective and that this experience offers valuable insights for businesses.
