Apple and OpenAI are facing a lawsuit filed by Elon Musk's X Corp.. Following a federal judge's dismissal of the case, the two companies have taken a legal step regarding this situation. Fort Worth U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman decided on Thursday that X and Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI can proceed in their current state, providing Musk with an early procedural victory. The judge emphasized that this decision does not evaluate the substance of the claims, which will be addressed later.
In a lawsuit filed in August, Apple is accused of violating antitrust rules by unilaterally integrating OpenAI's ChatGPT for new iPhones and other products. The allegations state that this arrangement made ChatGPT Apple's default chatbot while excluding Grok. Apple argues that applications and browsers offer artificial intelligence technologies, asserting that the connection is not exclusive. It initially stated that selecting a partner is not illegal.
OpenAI characterized the lawsuit as a continuation of Mr. Musk's bullying behavior and stated their intention to prove this in court. This situation further deepens the disputes that existed before Musk founded OpenAI. Additionally, Musk has also filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and board members in California for abandoning their non-profit mission.
